Over 14,000 handpumps giving poisonous water

LUCKNOW: In a shocking revelation, as many as 14,675 handpumps in Uttar Pradesh are spewing poisonous water. Reason: alarming levels of arsenic in groundwater in several districts.
In a survey conducted by the UP Jal Nigam in collaboration with the Unicef, the arsenic was found above the threshold limit if 0.01mg/lt in around 14,675 hand pumps. More than 93,000 water samples from handpumps from across the Ganga Ghaghra basin were collected from 51 districts for a quality check.
