The website Platts (6/7, Forster) reported that "Australian chemical company Penrice Soda Holdings has signed an agreement with GE Power & Water to build a demonstration plant using new technology to process the brine in water from coalseam gas wells, the company said in a statement Tuesday." Penrice has a patent pending for a new process that will "remove and make saleable chemicals from the brine in coalseam water" and "has already conducted laboratory and small-scale field trials of its technology, converting the dissolved brine in CSG water into the saleable chemicals sodium carbonate or soda ash, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium chloride or common salt." Penrice is expected to operate the plant, while GE is expected to be "a technology and equipment vendor." Read more: http://bit.ly/rb87bd
