Portable Water Filtration Tank Had Been Created by University Teknologi Malaysia
The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministryis hopingto bring portable water filtration tanks to provide clean water for flood victims.
Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin said a portable water filtration tank had beencreated and researched by University Teknologi Malaysia. The project was funded by the ministryin 1998.
"A 100% local technology device, it utilises membranes and ultraviolet ray technology to filter dirty water and provide clean water to drink," he said during an award ceremony by CyberSecurity Malaysia.
Ewon said the water tank could easily be moved around ona lorryand had the capability to provide clean drinking water for up to 3,000 people.
"You just park it next to a river and it will filter the water.
"This tank can even be used for underground water sources or even during the drought season.
"We are proposing to the government to purchase 30 of these tanks todeployat flood-hit areas.
"Each costsRM400,000. They can then be kept there and maintained foruseduringfuture emergencies."
Apart from that, the ministryis also proposing to CyberSecurity Malaysia to help the flood victims retrace and back up lost data in their computers.
