Project to Provide Drinking Tap Water to Hanoi

Fresh water that can be drunk right at the tap of each household is no longer a far future for residents in Hanoi as the capital is working the plan out with a German corporation.

147BA0444E7332421877EB“Currently the city and a water company from Germany is working on the water filtering technology to provide clean water that can be drunk directly from taps at European standards,” Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said on Wednesday.

“The system is slated to serve the public in September this year,” he added.

“The water pumped into the chamber of the system can be drunk directly without using chemical substances to purify,” Chung said, adding that the design can produce 300,000 cubic meters of clean water a day at full capacity.

The technology is much cheaper than that of the other water projects as he said that those of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development cost about VND46 million (US$2063) per house, while it only costs VND6 million ($269) or less per house when adapting the filtering technology.
