Signed on the sidelines of the 7th World Water Forum in Daegu, Korea, the MOU marks the first- ever collaboration between the national water utilities of Singapore and Korea
In a press release on Tuesday (Apr 14), PUB said the MOU was signed by Mr Harry Seah, PUB's Chief Technology Officer and Mr Kim Jaebok, K-water's Vice-President (Water Supply Business), at the PUB and K-water Technology and Innovation Reception, organised on the sidelines of the 7th World Water Forum in Daegu, Korea.
PUB and K-water will be collaborating on the four areas of smart water grids, water quality monitoring, green energy and water treatment processes.
Within these four topics, identified common focus areas include automatic meter reading (smart water grids); rapid detection of contaminants (water quality monitoring); photovoltaic systems (green energy); and membrane technology (water treatment processes).
The press release said the MOU marks the first-ever collaboration between the two national water utilities, and is the "culmination of years of information and knowledge exchange between two of the world's most advanced water utilities".
Mr Seah said: "Technology is a key driver in Singapore's journey towards water sustainability. As utilities around the world face common global challenges, it is beneficial for us to come together and jointly work on innovative solutions to overcome these challenges."
"I am convinced that this collaborative activity will be a milestone for Korean water companies to penetrate the Asian water industry. Both organisations, as the leading national water corporation, will play a vital role in the global water scene by spreading positive synergy through cohesive collaboration," said Mr Kim.
