Pure Technologies to install fibre-optic monitoring system in Canada

Asset management technology and services company Pure Technologies has received an $8m work contract from the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System (LHPWSS) in London, Ontario.
The company will supply and install its acoustic fibre-optic (AFO) monitoring system on a major water pipeline. The contract also includes real-time pipeline monitoring services for a period of two years.
The pipeline serves around 500,000 people spanning eight municipalities in the London area. A series of four pipeline failures has prompted LHPWSS to undertake a proactive approach through a technology-driven management programme.
LHPWSS and Pure Technologies conducted leak detection and condition assessment surveys using the company's SmartBall and PipeDiver inspection platforms and started collecting information on the existing condition of the pipeline. Following the inspections, LHPWSS verified and replaced three pipe sections that showed high levels of distress, in addition to identifying additional pipes for future replacement.
Pure's AFO monitoring system is expected to begin working in the fourth quarter. It will identify any further deterioration of the pipeline in real time.
