Umicore, ArcelorMittal, Boliden, Arkema, BASF and Pirelli forms a Consortium to Work on Recycling of Valuable Raw Materials from Industrial Waste Streams, Landfills, Wastewater and Mining Business
The consortium KIC RawMatTERS has won the call for EIT Raw Materials.
Wetsus is part of the consortium, as well as companies like Umicore, ArcelorMittal, Boliden, Arkema, BASF and Pirelli. This KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) will work on recycling of valuable raw materials from industrial waste streams, landfills, wastewater and mining. In this consortium Wetsus can work with new industrial partners on the recovery of metals and phosphates from liquid streams.
In September Wetsus already joined the Climate-KIC. This way, a range of activities can be scaled up to European level. Energy and resource efficiency in the (waste) water treatment, renewable energy production, energy storage, desalination and many other topics are discussed.
By participating in these two KICs Wetsus has a good position on European level for the next programming period, that runs until 2020. A further European reinforcement will follow from additional research and innovation instruments under Horizon 2020. All this reinforces the role of Wetsus as a European platform for the development of new technologies, encouraging start-ups, the teaching of entrepreneurship and valorizing knowledge in the field of water technology.
