Speaking to reporters during a meeting to chart the way forward, Tony Nsanganira, state minister in charge of Agriculture said that the country was focused on boosting agriculture production through modern farming techniques.
"We have some areas in Rwanda that are prone to severe drought like Eastern part of the country and this is where modern irrigation projects will implemented hence enhancing agriculture production," he noted.
Nsanganira stated that Rwanda's economy primarily depends on agricultural productivity and modern irrigation will play a key role towards increasing the country's agriculture produce.
Rwanda received a credit line worth 120 million U.S dollars Export-Import Bank of India to fund export targeted modern irrigation agricultural projects.
The project area is blessed with an abundance of surface water, but lacks irrigation facilities that can lead to improved agricultural practices.
