There are a couple of major problems that need to be addressed.  First and foremost would be enforcement of anti-trust laws. These used to be vigorously enforced, but, no more. The present business model is to consolidate to the point of oligopoly.  That is not only inimical to innovation, it requires the jettisoning of R&D in order to devote all resources towards mergers and acquisitions.  The other issues are what I will call "predator funds". There is no way  pension funds can meet their over promised goals, or that institutions like Harvard with their monster endowments can earn 10% annually without putting money into aggressive schemes that are tantamount to theft.  Hedge funds sue individuals, and entire countries as one of their strategies. Another strategy is of course to buy companies, lay everyone off , and use the resulting profit to do that again, thereby asset stripping the economy.  This is obvious and not rocket science.
