Sewer Corrosion Projected Awarded

SCORe, the Largest Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research Project in the World Has Been Awarded the Global Grand Award International Water Association's 2014 Project Innovation Awards

The award was presented during theInternational Water Association's World Water Congress and Exhibition in Lisbon, Portugal . The SCORe project was awarded the top prize for the beneficial tools and innovative technologies uncovered by its research team to help water utilities across Australia manage odour and corrosion issues within sewer systems. The project has helped utilities across the country save hundreds of millions of dollars by developing an effective strategy for the mitigation of corrosion and odour problems in wastewater collection systems.

Completed in 2013 in conjunction with an ongoingWater Environment Research Foundationventilation research programme, the SCORe (Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research) project was delivered by five research and eleven industry partners and remains the largest, world-wide research project on the subject. A national achievement for Australia, it demonstrates the value of collaboration between the country's water industry and the excellent research capabilities of its universities.

The project was funded by the Australian Research Council and the 16 industry and research partners: the University of Queensland, the University of New South Wales, the University of Newcastle (Australia), the University of Sydney, Curtin University of Technology, Sydney Water Corporation, Barwon Water Corporation, City of Gold Coast, Hunter Water Corporation, Melbourne Water Corporation, South Australian Water Corporation, South East Water Ltd, Veolia Water Australia and New Zealand, Water Research Australia Ltd and Western Australia Water Corporation.
