Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility was named a winner of the 2014 Secretary of the Navy's Energy and Water Management Awards
Along with the win for energy conservation efforts, the command was awarded $35,000 to use at the discretion of the commanding officer to improve quality-of-life features and encourage further energy improvements. The shipyard also is authorized to fly the SECNAV Energy Flag for the next year.
While consistently in the pack of winners in the platinum, gold or blue categories, this is the first top win for PSNS since 2011. The Pacific Northwest enjoys relatively low energy rates, compared to many other Navy locations, making it a challenge to keep attaining better reductions in numbers each year.
Neighboring commands also did well. Platinum Level awards were presented to Naval Base Kitsap, Naval Magazine Indian Island, Naval Station Everett and Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport. Receiving a Gold Level award was Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
