A software developed by Fundación UADE, through its institute of technology (INTEC), allows the integral modeling of drinking water supply systems.
The model of a drinking water supply system includes different aspects that are generally adapted to the needs of a development team. The integral modeling presented here combines the determination of the basic design parameters, the calculation of the hydraulic system and the economic evaluation of the project as parts of a whole that must be resolved in an interrelated manner.
The proposed solution is oriented to those who must generate different alternatives to design a potable water supply system, or to those who must select a project among different proposals.
The concept that transversally crosses the project is the visualization of the impact produced by the different sensitivities that are made to the variables that make up the model in the rest of the aspects of it, which makes the tool especially suitable for the evaluation of Projects. In this sense, the workflow and organization that the application imposes, guides the user in the way in which this type of project should be addressed.
The application includes tools for the analysis and determination of the following parameters:
- Definition of the basic design parameters for the system : population, provision, service coverage and characteristic flow rates at each stage of calculation.
- Geographical distribution of system components.
- Hydraulic resolution of the supply network: interacting with epanet’s dll and from own calculation modules.
- Economic evaluation of the project: the economic evaluation tables show the projection of the cash flows for each year included in the investment project, considering the costs and benefits that arise from the execution of the selected alternative from two different points of view:
- The private evaluation of an investment project is made from the point of view of a person or a company, being able to generate as many results as agents exist in the economy.
- The social evaluation of a project is carried out from the point of view of society, including the direct, indirect and external effects generated by the project.
