Graduate from University Campus Suffolk in Bury St Edmunds Has Received Two Top Awards for His Work on Water and Energy Conservation
Steven Perry, 47, is base energy manager at RAF Mildenhall and graduated with a first class BSc honours in Construction Management.
He has received awards from the US Federal Government for his research into a waterless urinal system and other energy savings and from the UK Chartered Institute of Building as best professional construction student at UCS Bury.
Stephen, who has worked for the US Air Force for 21 years, examined a range of strategies for saving water on the base including replacing traditional urinals with either a waterless urinal or smart optimiser, which only flushed when it recognised the urinal was in use,
He discovered that the waterless system was less environmentally friendly than expected and would cost the US military millions of dollars to implement.
He will receive the US award in Washington DC in November and the Chartered Institute of Building award at the university's graduation ceremony
