Suez Environnement has secured a €639m contract to improve the water network and services in ten localities of Gennevilliers Water Syndicate (SEPG) in France
The company won the 12-year public service delegation contract via its subsidiary Lyonnaise des Eaux.
As per the contract, Lyonnaise des Eaux will reduce water leakages throughout the SEPG network and improve the quality of the water supplied to the consumers.
Lyonnaise des Eaux is anticipated to bring in 90% network efficiency by 2018, leading to 50% reduction of the quantity of water lost by SEPG.
The company will deploy 1,500 acoustic sensors across the 1,000km network to identify leaks in real time.
Suez's subsidiary will also install 30 probes to measure the physical and chemical properties of the water.
Three optical bacteria detectors will be installed at important points of the network for better quality in water supply.
SEPG aims to check the potential of using decarbonation technology for water treatment, which is expected to be validated by April 2015.
Suez Environnement chief executive officer Jean Louis Chaussade said: "Our expertise in connected water networks and remote meter reading will allow us to fully meet the needs of this densely urbanised area, under a renewed governance structure with the local authorities."
