Sweden’s First Beer Brewed with Recycled Water

The R&D-facility for water purification launched its very own beer - PU:REST! 

Ten years ago, we started our R&D-facility for water purification in Nacka/Stockholm and since then it has become world unique (words used by those that have been there). Working on economic feasible and environmental sound solutions for a more sustainable wastewater and sludge management, we have shown that our vision of that sustainable society with respect to water is not a dream but around the corner if only we start to think in new ways, get rid of traditional conventional frames that limit ourselves.

To accomplish a rethinking we realised that it needs more than solid work, we need to engage people more than we were able so far. Therefore, after many years of just thinking about it, we brewed our own beer based on Stockholm’s most valuable source: its wastewater.

1. Purified recycled water is a good thing. Brewing and advertising beer specifically from recycled water is a gimmick.

   1. Gimmick in the sense of drawing attention to a serious issue as most people otherwise don't care, you are absolutely right! Brewing beer is just one channel to engage people. A tasty way by the way.
