I would like to see the data on silver nanoparticles 'destroying' the microbial cells. Most E coli are not pathogens. In drinking water E coli are indicators of sanitary contamination, so the issue is not just to remove E coli, but rather what pathogens they might represent. Silver is not considered to be a very potent biocide and there is not much data of efficacy against many bacterial pathogens, and certainly not protozoa or viruses.
