This company is using an ‘underwater satellite’ to map the seafloor

Planblue, the Bremen-based start-up that has operationalized underwater hyperspectral imaging over the past 5 years, is one of the winners of the UpLink Ocean Data Challenge.
The winners were announced at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The challenge called for companies to demonstrate applications for ocean data to boost ocean conservation and promote the sustainable blue economy. Planblue conducts detailed surveys of the seafloor and converts the data gathered with its sensors into information products using Machine Learning. Our first generation of products gives insight in the health of seagrass meadows and the amount of carbon they store, creating a substantial overlap between planblue’s work and vision and the Ocean Data Challenge.
