Turning Smart Meters Into Water Leak Detectors
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Technology
Here's a question with a lot of value to California's $43 billion agriculture industry: how can you detect and prevent wasteful, expensive and crop-damaging water leaks without installing a single new sensor?
The answer, according toPowWow Energy, lies in the smart meters that measure the electricity used to power irrigation pumps and water delivery systems across California. The electricity usage of those smart meters represents a set of data that, with the proper analysis, can be turned into an accurate view of when -- and soon, where -- water is being lost to leaks in farm and ranch irrigation systems across the state.
