Ultrapure Water for High-Performance Power Generation
Published on by Bart Ossenblok, Sales & Marketing in Technology
Pure Water Group has delivered a next-generation Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) system to its Italian partner, WTEC Plants srl, a specialist in customized water treatment solutions. Installed downstream of WTEC’s Reverse Osmosis system, Pure Water Group’s CEDI system produces Ultrapure water for use as boiler feed water in a modern combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Sicily, Italy.
A CCGT power plant generates electricity using two thermodynamic cycles - a gas turbine and a steam turbine - to maximize the overall efficiency. CEDI technology ensures reliable, energy-efficient, and sustainable Ultrapure water production, which is critical for turbine protection, operational efficiency, and long-term reliable performance.
For this project, Pure Water Group has implemented its newly developed VNX PLUS system design. The CEDI system features four independently operated Ionpure VNX-Max modules, mounted on a single compact skid. This smart, modular configuration enables a flexible Ultrapure water production capacity - from 15 to 60 m³/h - by operating one or multiple CEDI modules depending on demand.
This project further strengthens the partnership between WTEC Plants srl and Pure Water Group, combining engineering expertise and innovation to deliver advanced and sustainable water treatment solutions that support an efficient and reliable energy future.
