UNESCO & SUEZ Team up to Protect the Oceans
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Social
World Oceans Day, organised by the IOC/UNESCO and the Ocean and Climate Platform 2015, is an attempt to raise awareness amongst all stakeholders of the need to place the oceans at the heart of climate negotiations, including the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, and to take action to protect this resource
As one of the leading partners in this event, SUEZ environnement is confirming its involvement in the fight against the pollution of our seas and coasts and is committing to support the actions taken by the IOC/UNESCO in the long term. The Group also supports the initiatives of four NGOs committed to the protection of marine ecosystems on all five continents:7ème Continent,Expédition MED,GoodplanetandSurfriderFoundation Europe.
As a leading player in the sustainable management of resources, SUEZ environnement develops solutions on every continent to preserve water resources and to recycle and reuse waste, both of which help to protect our oceans. SUEZ environnement proposes concrete solutions to limit the pollution of the oceans at the earliest possible stage.
ANTICIPATE THE POLLUTION OF OUR REGIONS
80% of marine pollution comes from the land, and in particular from watercourses, the run-off of rainwater or objects that are accidentally or deliberately thrown into the sea.
SUEZ environnement proposes to protect the oceans with solutions that limit upstream pollution, thanks to effective treatments in wastewater treatment plants and by anticipating the risks of flooding and discharges of rainwater into the natural ecosystem.
PROTECTING THE COASTLINE WITH TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPED BY SUEZENVIRONNEMENT
The increasing appeal of coastal regions, tourism and strong economic activity, all contribute to making our coastlines highly sensitive regions, where the water quality and the marine fauna and flora may be under threat.SUEZ environnement protects the coastlineagainst the risks of pollution, while favouring the sustainable economic development of coastal towns, by offering numerous innovative solutions to local authorities. What is as stake? The real-time measurement of the quality of bathing water, the protection of the marine ecosystem in ports for pleasure boats and helping to depollute coastal zones.
