Using mobile app to save water
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Technology
Three seniors from HCMC University of Technology have developed a mobile app as a water leak detector to help reduce water losses in a building or a city.
Developed by Trinh Quoc Anh, Nguyen Tran Quang Khai and Vo Phi Long, the app called “Reduce water leaks by a mobile device” has won first prize in the Smart Water Innovation Contest 2016, which was held by the Embassy of Sweden early this year in cooperation with universities throughout Vietnam.
At an award ceremony on June 6, Anh, who majors in information technology, said everyone regardless of profession should be responsible for saving water and protecting water resources.
Statistics show water losses in Vietnam reach 27% while the respective percentages in Tokyo and Singapore are 3% and 4%.
When a water leak is detected, users will just open the app to locate the leak by GPS. The more people use the app, the more precise it is.
The three students were awarded a trip to Sweden to take part in the annual World Water Week in Stockholm at the end of August.
