UV Disinfection Contract Awarded to Xylem

Xylem will supply a major municipal water reclamation facility with ultraviolet (UV) disinfection solutions, according to a press release

he treatment system will provide an additional 228,000 tons of reclaimed water every day for “the city’s industrial sector and communities living east of the city,” stated the release. The plant will open in 2016.

Xylem will incorporate microfiltration, reverse osmosis and its UV disinfection system in the second Changi Water Reclamation Plant, noted the release. The project is a part of the NEWater Study, “high-grade reclaimed water produced from treated used water that is further purified using advanced membrane technologies and ultra-violet disinfection, making it ultra-clean and safe to drink.”

Reused water supplies account for up to 30 percent of Singapore’s water, reported the release. By 2060, NEWater hopes to meet 55 percent of the region’s water demand.

“Singapore is at the cutting edge of water reuse. As a company focused on developing innovative, efficient solutions to the global water challenges, we are proud to support this latest step in the nation’s journey towards increased water reuse,” said Robin Wong, general manager for Xylem Singapore and regional marketing director of Greater Asia for Xylem, in the release.

Xylem’s UV disinfection systems feature high-power, 600-watt technology that reduce lamp count by 60 percent, shared the release.
