VA Tech Wabag has bagged a Rs 220-crore order to design and construct 140 million litres a day sewage treatment plant at Dinapur in Varanasi, which is part of the Ganga Action Plan Project, also includes the operation and maintenance of the plant for 10 years
Wabag will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the sewage treatment plant.
Ganga Action Plan Project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The implementation agency of the project is Ganga Pollution Prevention Unit, UP Jal Nigam, Varanasi.
For this project, Wabag will employ ‘activated sludge process' with biogas-based power generation. This process will help the plant generate power from biogas and the plant will be self-sustainable using this ‘green energy'.
This will not only help the project reduce its operational costs, but will also reduce carbon emissions and, thus, will qualify for carbon credits, the company said in a statement.
