Veolia creates national competition to promote water industry innovations
Veoliaand two Wisconsin agencies focused on water and economic development have created a program to help innovators produce and sell products that can provide sustainable options for the water industry.
Announced Thursday, "emPowering Opportunities in Water" would be a national competition for ideas to solve specific problems in the management and delivery of water. Startups that have the highest likelihood of solving the specific challenge will be chosen to enter the program organized by the global company, theMilwaukee Water CouncilandWisconsin Economic Development Corp.
The specific assistance, whether it's space in Milwaukee's Global Water Center, mentoring or financing, will be determined at a later date, saidMark Maley, a spokesman for the WEDC.
Dean Amhaus, president and CEO of the Water Council, signed the agreement creating the program while in Paris as part of atrade mission led by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Veolia, which operates water and wastewater utilities in more than 650 cities, is based in Paris.
