"Veoliaforce" to Support MSF's Water Mission
Published on by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Business
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the Veolia Foundation have signed a research and innovation partnership to provide support for MSF's missions in the fields of energy, waste, sanitation and drinking water
One objective:optimize the energy footprint of MSF's projects, including deployment of solar energy in field installations.
In addition to financial support, the Veolia Foundation assists MSF by providing technical expertise through the "Veoliaforce" network of expert employees trained to intervene in emergency humanitarian missions.
MSF has fought against malaria since 2010 in Moissala in southern Chad and provides care for children under the age of five for whom the disease is the main cause of death. With the support of the Veolia Foundation, MSF will be installing solar photovoltaic panels to supply electricity. The site chosen for this trial is very isolated and will provide the mission with an autonomous energy supply.
"The purpose of this partnership is twofold: optimize energy management in MSF missions to save money and reduce our energy footprint by using renewable energy, in particular solar energy," said Stéphane Roques, CEO of Médecins Sans Frontières.
"I am delighted" added Thierry Vandevelde, Executive Officer of the Veolia Foundation, "that we can support MSF in its search for greater autonomy of its missions and the lowest possible energy footprint to better serve the disadvantaged populations that the organization helps every day."

- In theDemocratic Republic of Congo, Veolia and MSF provided access to better quality water for 90,000 citizens in Kalemie (Katanga) by extending the city's drinking water network in 2012 to fight against cholera.
- In 2014, Veolia installed and tested the "Aquaforce500" emergency water treatment plant with MSF in Sudanese refugee camps in northern Uganda.
