Wabag secures $82 million deal for wastewater treatment in Zambia
Va Tech Wabag (Wabag) been awarded a €78 million ($82 million) contract by the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) to develop wastewater treatment plants in Zambia, reports GlobalData.
The project is backed by funding from the European Investment Bank and Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau.
The contract follows a design, build, and operate (DBO) model, encompassing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of two state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facilities in Ngwerere and Chunga. These plants will have daily treatment capacities of 54 megalitres (MLD) and 19 MLD, respectively. The EPC phase is set to take 36 months, after which Wabag will manage the operation and maintenance of the facilities for an additional 24 months.
