Wastage of water due to water logging and drainage schemes

Water is very precious. The wastage of water in any form should be treated as a non cognizable offence. The large scale Culturable areas are suffering from water logging problem, as in Indira Gandhi Nahar project, Chambal Project, Rajasthan, and in other projects of India. Instead of investigating the causes which led to water logging, it as a general practice (à¤à¥à¥-à¤à¤¾à¤² ) in India to design and execute surface water and sub soil water Drainage Schemes, Bio Drainage, etc ; thus carrying water of dams and canals back to the river, without utilizing it and thus wasting it.
I hope now the Ministry of Water Resources of State Governments and Government of India may like to change their policies. They may like to investigate the reasons why the artificially irrigated areas are getting water logged and may consider to reduce / stop supply of canal water in the water logged areas, thus bring the water logged areas back under cultivation. Where ever feasible, the land lost and water being lost due to construction of Drainage Schemes, may be recovered by removing un necessary drains and Bio Drainage works.
