Water Firms Adopt Standards for Connecting New Builds

The UK's water companies have adopted a set of standards to govern the connection of newly-built homes to water and wastewater networks
The standards were originally published as part of the document ‘Better Connected: A practical guide to utilities for home builders' in December.
Drawn up with the aim of helping to speed up the building of new homes, the standards are also intended for developers to be able to compare competing offers from Self-Lay Organisations (SLOs) and water companies. They include timeframes for responding to enquiries, providing designs and quotations, constructing and making connections, and dealing with legal agreements. The timeframes have been made more specific since the earlier draft of the document.
Work on the standards has been coordinated through Water UK, and the performance of its members will be updated quarterly and published on the Water UK website from July 2015.
