Water Firms Needed for Collaboration Project

WRC is Seeking More Water Companies to Take Part in a New Collaboration Aimed at Transforming the Management of Water Networks

The project concerns the use of distributed computing architecture to deliver true proactive water network management, with dynamic up-to-date models and scenarios run and decisions made in minutes, rather than hours or days. The rapid availability of information means that, for example, in the time it takes a field operative to park and lift a valve cover the customer impact of their potential activity is known to the operations centre and the field operative themselves.

Over the next 18 months the technology, which is already being used at the University of Manchester, will be adapted and demonstrated through a large scale practical trial with the participating water companies. This will establish what can be achieved with this new approach when integrated with existing tools such as those currently used for network modelling.
