Water management software gone global

A Portuguese designed software program for managing water supply and sanitation network maintenance has already been adopted by a thousand users worldwide, Helena Alegre of the National Civil Engineering Laboratory told Lusa on Tuesday.

"It is with pride that we confirm that this is a clear case of exporting know-how, 100% made in Portugal whether from the scientific, methodological and technological point of" said fellow project researcher Sérgio Coelho with the pair mentioning Spain, the United States, Norway and Australia as some of the countries having adopted the software.

As regards the key factors for success, the researchers identified the platform's versatility generating improvements and fully adapting to the specific needs of each client.

The AWARE-P software components are freely available with a license required for data management and other added value services.

The AWARE-P software was this year's International Water Association Project Innovation Award 2014 - Europe winner following its production by the National Engineering Laboratory, the Portuguese software company Addition in partnership with the Higher Technical Institute and ERSAR, the Portuguese Water Sector Regulator, and the Norwegian SINTEF research institute.
