National Water Company Has Launched a SR2.2 Billion Strategic Reserve Project to Store 6 Million Cubic Meters of Water in the City
NWC announced the Startup partial of the first stage of the strategic water Storage project in the city of Jeddah, which has a capacity of total of one and a half million cubic meters at a cost of more than 540 million SR, and includes the implementation of eight concrete tanks armed with a capacity of 188 thousand cubic meters per tank.
The strategic Storage project in Jeddah is the first of its kind to meet the growing demand for water and a radical solution for the water services sector, water and environmental remediation, and that according to the vision leadership in promoting water security and the needs of the citizens, support and follow-up to the Emir of Makka Region, and His Highness the Governor of Jeddah.
NWC confirmed its success in ending more than (50%) of the components of the project and entered into service during this summer season, and four armed tanks, each with a capacity of more than (188) thousand m3 hoping to reach the percentage of completion of more than (65% ) and with a power of (one) million cubic meters and start the service the end of 2014, according to the company's performance in accelerated implementation and that, God willing, will contribute to the continuation of pumping water to the city of Jeddah on an ongoing basis, and to avoid any shortage of emergency during the summer season.
The company explained that the completion of the entire components of the first phase of the project and its start in service will be in the first half of next year, 2015, confirming that it is currently working on the implementation of three extra tanks later with a power of half a million cubic meters at a cost of financial approximately (202) million SR, to become the Total energy (2) million cubic meters for the first phase.
The company said it had implemented the second and third phase of the Strategic Storage project, with an energy of the second phase (one) million cubic meters at a cost of (374) million SR, and will be implemented in the Breiman, and the third phase with a power of (one) million cubic meters at a cost of (450) million riyals, and will be implemented in Al Faisaliah, explaining that it will be during the coming period and putting the fourth and fifth phase of the strategic Storage projects in Jeddah, bringing the total strategic storage in Jeddah about (6) million m3 of water, and the cost of discretionary financial convergence (2.2) billion riyals.
NWC pointed that there are several contracts succeeded in ending the implementation and operation to support strategic Storage projects, including the implementation contract line carrier of water from the desalination plant to storage tanks in Faisaliah at a cost of (109) million riyals, as well as the implementation of the carrier line of Breiman to Faisaliah at a cost of more than (93) million SR.
It is known that the implementation of the project came according to international norms and standards, and specifications of high quality and that the trial run of the project will contribute in the improving o the management of water demand in the city of Jeddah, in addition to that it will be used for strategic storage for the summer of this year.
