WaveSub Wave Energy Generator Put to Test

Welsh renewables developer Marine Power Systems (MPS) has taken the plunge with its first wave energy device, delivering a prototype WaveSub generator to Cornwall this weekend as it begins its first phase of sub-sea testing.
MPS unveiled its WaveSub prototype - which is a quarter-scale version of the planned final generator - at Pembrokeshire dock in Wales on Friday before towing it to the FaBTest wave energy research site in Cornwall where it will be put through its paces in a range of weather conditions to assess its performance.
Nine years and £5m in the making, the generator is designed to be installed about 10km offshore and be submerged below the water surface so it can 'hide' from rough seas. MPS claims its WaveSub system will eventually be able to power 5,000 homes at an affordable rate and in a wide range of sea conditions.
