Netherlands-based Westfort Meatproducts, who is building one of the world's most innovative, sustainable and animal welfare respecting pig slaughterhouses in IJsselstein, the Netherlands, has chosen for Royal HaskoningDHV's wastewater treatment technology Nereda®
Rob Stekelenburg, Director of Project Management & Engineering firm PROMAD, in charge of the design and supervision of the total slaughterhouse, said: "In the Dutch village IJsselstein we are working on one of the most progressive slaughterhouses of the world. Important part of the process is an own wastewater treatment installation. We are very happy to implement the Nereda wastewater treatment technology. This innovation fits perfectly in our design. We are looking forward to work together with RWB and Royal HaskoningDHV to build a state-of-the-art installation."
Pre-engineering of the Nereda wastewater treatment installation was already executed in 2014. In January 2015 the contract for the detail design, delivery, installation and start-up of the equipment of the extended Nereda package was signed. Contractor RWB Water Systems B.V. is responsible for the coordination and complementation of the wastewater and sludge treatment installations. The slaughterhouse will be fully operational by the end of 2015. The wastewater treatment plant has a maximum capacity of 1,400 m3 a day. The treated effluent is discharged to the sewer.
This assignment confirms Nereda's perfect fit for the treatment of not only domestic wastewater but also industrial applications. Other industry applications of Nereda are with a cheese processing plant and food & salad factory.
