5-year Wetland Project in an Agricultural Area of the BurdekinConserved within 16,000 ha of Intensive Farming Land
The Barratta Creek catchment is home to a large cane growing community, as well as some grazing and fruit production, but now the agricultural precinct has another claim to fame.
WetlandCare Australia has teamed up with local farmers and other stakeholders to create a 10,000 hectare conservation area for a program due to end in 2017.
The project is using a $2.4 million grant from the Federal Government.
Project officer, Merv Pyott says 30,000 trees will be planted, along with 150 kilograms of seed.
