Zimbabwe Industry Wants Time to Solve Pollution

Chronicle Says: Zimbabwe Industry Wants to SolveWater Pollution

Zimbabwe's Environmental Management Agency closed 31 companies for not complying with water-pollution regulations after June 30, theChroniclereported.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, which represents most manufacturers, said some companies will need more time to comply with the rules, which require large capital expenditure, the Bulawayo-based newspaper reported, citing Joseph Kanyekanye, an advisory board member at the CZI.

Zimbabwe's government hasn't yet considered offering companies an extension to meet the regulations, the Chronicle said, citing Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo, who chairs a cabinet committee on water pollution.

The government will probably rule on the issue after receiving a report from EMA later this week.
