H2ORadio_Accidents_T.jpgThousands of miles of waterways across the U.S. are threatened by contamination from different chemical sources such as fracking waste, industrial chemicals, coal ash ponds, oil pipelines, and animal waste from large-scale farms. A new report by Environment America Research & Policy Center and Frontier Group is calling for major actions to protect them as the Trump administration moves to weaken safeguards. 1. The need for minerals and their environmental pollution impact is not confined to particular countries, communities or even political persuasions. Look backwards looking for root causes is helpful to avoid future problems such as underfunding safety issues, and/or recognising blatant profiteering.  But many times the historic legacy occurred over such a long time period, that it is perhaps better to acknowledge that as the minerals have been mined (and those profits long since spent), we are where we are.  It then becomes a matter for communities/governments of how to act (or not) as the case may be, using the science that's now available, and prioritising safety and clean-up of potential environmental impacts, given each nation's funding constraints.

  2. We have hundreds of dams ready to collapse in Brazil. Full of mining wastes. I really do not understand how is possible such facilities to have an environmental licensing. It is a shame.
