Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist with strong GIS skills for immediate employment in the Morrisville, NC office. The successful candidate will use their GIS skills to support projects related to water, wastewater, and stormwater utility asset management and environmental compliance studies. They will work collaboratively in a team environment with mentors and peers to develop solutions to environmental challenges. In addition to GIS, work will include regulatory research, field and office data collection and analysis, spreadsheet development and calculations, report writing, developing presentation materials, and presenting results in oral presentations. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
- Collect and enter data, and apply technical principles and theories
- Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, soil science, agriculture, geology or any scientific related field)
- Knowledge of environmental data collection, identification, investigation, and data entry
- Familiar with ESRI suite of GIS software products including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox.
- Proficiency in performing spatial analysis to calculate linear measurements as well asset density within defined areas.
- Demonstrate the ability to update features and associated attributes based on conditions observed during field exercises.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Maps, and other common business software and web-based applications
- Must be able to conduct field work, tolerate variable environmental conditions, walk on uneven surfaces, and lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive rental vehicles on behalf of the company
- Must be able to travel on business periodically for periods of up to two weeks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Work collaboratively in teams and independently when necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting field inventories of water, wastewater, and stormwater system assets
- Experience collecting location data using mapping grade GPS and post processing data
