Applying SS304 piping to SWRO Permeat
Published on by Jo Oh Hyeok
As per above title, is it suitable applying SS304 piping to SWRO Permeat (TDS 128.9 ppm, pressure 1barg.) ?
i think that GRP pipng will be suitable batter than SS304. I want to get other opinion.

There are better alternatives as members suggest, but if SS piping is desired for some reason, chloride stress cracking corrosion at welded joints is your main concern. At low pressure and temp, passivation of welds is required and SS perfectly suitable. Full dip passivation of assembled spools is best method. Have experience with 20% plus concentrated brine and SS compatibility. Excellent results if welds passivated. Even at temps 160F and pressures > 2bar.

It is up to two parameters
1. Flow rate
2.TDS
For your case permeat water i think pvc will be suitable upto DN 315mm

SS 304 will be expensive. Depending on temperature & pressure & flow capacity you may consider GRP or HDPE.
