Can anyone give me some inputs fordesigning a deep bed filter. The design parameters like Filtration rate, media used (Sand,Anthracite ,Gravel etc),effective size of media, head loss etc.

  1. Deep bed filtration may be defined as a granular filter for removal of total suspended solids (TSS) from secondary treatment effluent. Coarse media is normally used to encourage deep penetration of solids into the media bed. This allows for longer filtration runtimes. Simultaneous air and water backwashes are used to ensure cleaning of the filters as required. There could be diferent type of filter you can opt depending on your requirmnets. May be go for a sand filter if looking out for a cheap solution. In slow sand filters, water flows downwards trough a sand bed. This is one of the oldest methods to remove solids (and other material as well) from water. But as said it depends on your requirements.
