Differential Pressure Measurement Scheme
Published on by Reza Nikbakht, Process Engineer in Technology
Hello dear members,
I would like to talk about an issue about the instrumentation of filtration equipment, installed in parallel, such as sand filters. Generally, it is seen in different plants that a dedicated set of the differential pressure measuring device for each under pressure filtration equipment. For example, if 8 pressure sand filters are installed in parallel, 8 DPTs are placed in total. On the other hand, some designers say one differential pressure transmitter is adequate for the whole filtration colony. What do you think about the appropriate scheme regarding this issue?

As you install in in - and Out header the probes of dP meters/ pressure gauges it's on per side enough as the hydraulic pressure will be the same as there is not so much difference in piping structure of ea. pressure vessel. It's hydraulic law that the pressure will be the same.Same is for pump stations. From my point of view this is coming for the PID of one pump station/ filter station and then copy and paste for the system. You can use also on pressure transmitter in Inlet and one in outlet the difference is calculated by the Control system. Therefore you have 3 data Inlet pressure, outlet pressure and calculated difference pressure. Saves Money.
