Ecosystem Valuation for Wetlands

Following on from the Ecosystem Services and Valuation workshops in Kampala and Benin, a new project has been launched: Nile Ecosystems valuation for Wise Use (Nile Eco-VWU), funded by the Water Land and Water Ecosystems theme of the CGIAR consortium. A kick-off meeting was held in Cairo in March and a practitioners workshop will be held in Kampala at the end of the month (April, 2015). A number of reports on Ecosystem Valuation for Wetlands (TEEB) can be found in the wetlandsforum.net library. The Eco-VWU project is headed up Makerere University (Uganda) and the Nile Basin Capacity Building Network (NBCBN), with partners from Egerton University (Kenya), UNESCO Chair for Water Resources (Sudan), Ain Shams University-(Egypt), WaterCap, CapNet-UNDP , UNESCO-IHE (Netherlands), ITC-TWENTE (Netherland) and Szent István University (Hungary). As the partners turn theory into practice, we would like to open up a discussion of the challenges, rewards and opportunities related to the valuation of wetlands. Posts from project partners and the sharing of similar experiences from others involved in valuation of African wetlands welcome. Why not start building a library of literature and stories of implementation for all to share, paying attention of course to any copyright restrictions
