Engineering & Planning of Clarifiers (Sedimentation Tanks) for Pretreatment Application
I keen on understanding the concept of designing clarifiers for (N-1) conditions. How does one plan the number of clarifiers so that the rated output is achieved in (N-1) and (N) operating conditions. How to manage the surface overflow rate design factor for both the operating conditions? Is there any limit to over design the clarifiers. The application in question is for a pretreatment section of a desalination plant. The expected inlet TSS is 50 to 100 ppm. The scheme is intake followed by clarifiers followed by DAF and finally media filtration.
