Hello friends, glad to be a part of this group. Thanks to the development team. I would like to know your review on GRASS GIS software?...is anyone using it on field ?

Thanks Stefan and Andrew... When i was using precompiled GRASS binaries on Linux I was getting error. I have upgraded the Linux and now will start using it. Your reviews are helpful... Thanks to water network team for exposing me to the network....:)

Grass is one of the most function rich GIS systems and includes remote sensing image analysis, but as mentioned does have a fairly high learning curve depending on one’s IT skills. Grass also integrates with QGIS and many other packages like ‘R’ stats and is well documented. Being open source with QGIS as a front end it is a top system. Not sure how well it would work on remote/mobile systems, any comment on that would be appreciated.

GRASS GIS is a very specific Software covering a wide range of geographical analysis tools. But you have to invest time to get to know the user interface. We are using the GRASS GIS for specific task only. For example, you can use GRASS API to build up WebGIS based functionality for routing or network analysis. But for daily work we are using PostGIS, SAGA GIS and Quantum GIS.
