How can I design a lab scale constructed wetland and test the effluent from the WWTP through it?

Hello everyone I need your inputs on designing a lab scale constructed wetland and test the efflunet from WWTP through it.Can someone help? thanks.

  1. Dear Veronika, as Dion said, for pilot-scale beds we usually use plastic tanks/containers (~1000 L or bigger), after cutting their top. This is an easy and relatively cheap solution. If you can afford building something bigger, it would enhance the credibility of the experiment of course. Concerning the type of the system and related design parameters (e.g., dimensions, applie load etc) we need information about the type/origin of the wastewater, the level of treatment in the previous wwtp and effluent data.

  2. We usually use IBC containers to build constructed wetlands for tests. I would recommend not to make the model too small or your results will not be valid. The substrate/water depth should be at least the same as in real situations. For the rest details depend on what type of constructed wetland you wish to build.   3. Constructing a lab size wetland will be easy task. You must need to create a box structure and fill it with the material(it depends on what you want to test). Also this is not an expensive affair. But the effluent testing will be quite critical.
