Lub oil recycling by KERASIEV® Ceramic Membrane- 3rd generation membrane

Lub oil is an important part in any mechanical instrument viz IC engine to drilling and so on. It is used to reduce friction and increase the efficiency and life of machine. The lub efficiency reduces with time, primarily due to the increase of carbonaceous parts (soot & other impurities) from the fuel, dust and air/environment. It is a general practice of the industry to separate those impurities via distillation or filter media and recycle it with certain additives.

ASTM/vacuum distillation is an old and high capital and operational intensive process due to high thermal energy requirement and huge machinery cost.  Membrane or Physical filter based separation process is low capital and high efficiency process.

Plate and frame filter is the most common filtration technology used in this process. Since the process is temperature driven (to reduce the viscosity), the filter media (cotton or poly-cotton mix) giveaway after a short period. The cloth is to be replaced stopping the process, which increases the operational cost. Moreover it is dead end filtration and thus operates in batches, which increase the cost of ownership and eventually reduces the overall profit margin. This is also the reason for its unpopularity in higher volume process.

KERASIEV® Ceramic Membrane is the 3rd generation filter which used cross flow filtration process making it efficient, continuous (like distillation), durable and with Low cost of ownership.
