Mekong: Watch that River

Published on by

A really nice video illustrating the river management options for the Mekong River. UNEP has analysed the threats of climate change on the society and economy that rely on the Mekong River. At risk are water, food and jobs for 65 million people living in basin. To minimize impact, the six Mekong countries need to better plan and coordinate how they share the river's resources and their impact on its flow.Watch the video here:http://bit.ly/Rc9vqJ

  1. Great article, Matthew, thanks for sharing! Have you heard of the news about the Xayaburi dam? Despite all concerns for the environmental sustainability of the project, the Laotian government inaugurated the the construction project a few days ago: http://nyti.ms/XjuvBl Why all this rush? Have the impacts of the dam been studies well enough? Isn't this going against the objections of other riparian countries? Let me have your views!

  2. Earlier this year I wrote an article on the Mekong River that was published on-line in the Atlantic Sentinel and re-printed on my own blog with embedded links and references: http://hydro-logic.blogspot.com/2012/03/chinese-dam-building-tests-southeast.html Comments always welcome!
