What is the role of Private sector in Sanitation and water?
Published on by Puja Gupta in Business
We know that governments alone in developing countries, cannot solve and handle the sanitation problems.
The private sector has to step in to provide improved sanitation. While the involvement could be different from country to country in developing world, but it's important to study the role and their impact in the sanitation and water sector.
Do you agree with me?

1st not just countries should do all the work. Its starts with every human being. Everyone should be informed about how to do something, what happens if do or don't do something. There is a lot of examples when all water or wastewater network is damaged because the users have not be informed. There is small city in Finland forgot its name. But there all water network was closed due to salmonella in pipes. Basically it got in from garden tubes who was connected to pipe network without stop valve. 2nd is local companies who should be informing customers about safety and do check ups. In developing countries there is big precent of population who don't understand the sanitation process and are just thinking if water come out of pipe it is good to use. And if it all goes in sewer its not my problem anymore. But maintenance workers should be doing everything in there power to maintain system so the fault of human don't mess up whole network. But it is not an easy job. Mainly due to old systems, Money is kind a big deal too, can't just afford to replace all pipes or get enough specialists. The government is last peace in this system. They can inform or reinform population. Make regulations and invest in changes. But still and for time in forward it won't be easy and a lot of work is needed to chase down a stable and safe environment.
For now I'm not even talking about making two systems one for sewer other for rain water, because its ideal witch cost a lot and basically not main priority. In Europe union foundation helps a lot. But for some countries soon it ends. And then governments have too chances found water and wastewater companies or forget about them and make them to find investors themselves.
For now I think private sector even don't know how hard role they have had chosen. Additional point for them is that they even can't make up prices for water or sewer. They can request needed amount in government but it chooses witch price is suitable for region. Reading how it is in 1st degree countries is like a dream stories. But from my point of view it will change in next few years.
About improved sanitation - there is a lot of problems which is needed to be corrected, even with the norms of sawer water consistence. What parameters should be tested and made for main points to pas regulations. Basically this question is really deep and have one simple answer it is yes for private sector stepping in.
