why water is scare in middle east.

Do you know that 70% of desalination plants in the world are located in this area, found mostly inSaudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain. Still why the middle east is facing the water problem and that too on a high alarming basis? Views are welcome.

thank you everyone for comments. The strain on the global water supply is the result of a number of factors. First, most of the Earth’s water is simply unavailable for consumption, sanitation, or agricultural purposes because 97% of it is salt water. Of the remaining 3%, only 1% is available for direct human use. Moreover, in some areas of the world, the available freshwater supply is being depleted faster than it is being replenished.

Lets not forget something really fundamental here. Desalination plants do not mean an open faucet for all. Water is expensive, and desalinated supplies are a manner to mitigate the short fall but more often than not only provide a limited supply. The key to this problem lÃes with conjunctive water use and more effective basin management.

I think not only in the middle east but also in many countries in the world and this problem comes from the increase in population and no increase in the fresh water around 3% of the whole water on the earth

This mainly related to water management. For instant, those countries do not use water treatment at least for baths.
