2016 Asian ESP Conference

Welcome to the first Asian ESP Conference! The focus will be on the question if and how the ecosystem services-concept can help solve pressing environmental and socio-economic problems. In short: can ecosystem services help re-connect people and ecosystems to develop Nature Based Solutions.

Our planet is facing irreversible biodiversity loss and unprecedented natural disasters. Consequently our economy is being threatened and human well-being is challenged at a global scale. Asia is no exception and the concept of ecosystem services can help to address these challenges and threats in Asia.

An important aim of this conference is to raise awareness in Asian communities about the ecosystem services concept and accelerate collaboration in Asia by expanding information-sharing among experts, policy-makers and practitioners on ecosystem services as a practical tool for Nature Based Solutions.

The conference will offer a chance to discuss future cooperative Ecosystem Services projects across physical borders connecting people and ecosystems and provide a solid foundation to establish an Asian Ecosystem Services Network in future.

This Asian Conference will be held in Ansan-city, Republic of Korea from 30 May to 3 June 2016. More than 15 countries including major Asian countries such as China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Korea and other international partners such as Germany, Australia, and the Netherlands will collaborate to pursue the common goal to realize ecosystem services policies for sustainable solutions to environmental and socio-economic problems.

This conference will provide an important opportunity to share ideas, find project partners and to be connected to build Asian solidarity.

We are very much looking forward to your active participation and suggestions to achieve our common goals!
