Arsenic in drinking water and food is a major health issue, affecting millions of people in many parts of the world. In recent years serious cases of arsenic exposure through different environmental matrices have been reported from, for example, Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Taiwan, Turkey, West Bengal (India), Mexico, UK, USA, Pakistan, Vietnam as well as other regions in the world.
Arsenic can cause a number of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic adverse effects on human health and therefore human exposure to arsenic should be avoided. To address these issues, the International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment is organized biannually as a focal point for showcasing research and developments on a range of topics related to arsenic in the environment. Since 2006, six events of the International Congress Series have been held: Mexico 2006, Spain 2008, Taiwan 2010, Australia 2012, Argentina 2014, Sweden 2016 and P.R. China 2018.
The 8th International Congress & Exhibition on Arsenic in the Environment will take place in Wageningen, The Netherlands 7 to 10, June 2021. The theme of the 2021 congress is “Bridging Science to Practice for Sustainable Development”.
